Lifeguards are on duty from 10:00am to 5:00pm on days protected beaches are open.

In 2024, lifeguards will be on duty every weekend (weather dependent) beginning May Saturday, 18th. They will be on duty every day beginning June 17th.

There are three (3) lifeguard protected beaches (each of which has bathrooms):

  • Main Beach
  • Georgica Beach
  • Two Mile Hollow Beach

Bathrooms at these beaches will be open whenever lifeguards are on duty, and otherwise open on a limited daytime schedule until the beaches are open daily for the season.

No fishing, water craft or surfboards are allowed in designated swimming areas.

Lifeguards are certified by the Suffolk County Department of Health after passing a Suffolk County-approved course. The test is offered in June and August in East Hampton and applicants must be 16 years of age or older. There is also a Junior Lifeguard Program for children ages 9 to 15 years. Preparatory courses are offered at the YMCA RECenter.

For more information call the Pool Director at the YMCA RECenter at 631-329-6884 and/or the Town of East Hampton Parks Department at (631) 324-6124.

OCEAN LIFEGUARDS

The East Hampton Village lifeguards serve and protect the public on ocean beaches from Georgica Pond through the area east of Two Mile Hollow, where East Hampton Town lifeguard jurisdiction begins. The village lifeguards are highly trained and take a qualifying exam along with annual CPR and First Aid courses. They train daily to be effective with new techniques and rescue equipment!

RESPONSIBILITIES : Village Lifeguards are ready to assist the public at any moment! Their daily tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Daily training
  • Beach set up
  • Daily radio checks
  • Monitoring the radio and ever-changing water conditions
  • Assisting the public as needed
  • Saving swimmers in distress
  • Assisting EMS at the beach until medical help arrives
  • Patrolling unprotected beaches via ATV or Jet ski to ensure the highest level of public safety
  • Filing Incident Reports
  • Filing Daily Beach Reports
  • Beach breakdown every day
  • Staffing beach events where swimming is permitted

The Village of East Hampton Lifeguards knows minutes matter. The response time is under 6 minutes from Georgica Beach to 2 Mile Hollow and even fewer to the beaches in between.

EMERGENCY VEHICLES:

Village ocean lifeguards currently have a fleet of one (1) lifeguard truck, four (4) ATVs, two (2) side by side vehicles, as well as two (2) jet skis and one (1) drone. The newest Jet ski is a tremendous asset to the lifeguards, enabling them to cut response time and modify rescue techniques as needed in larger swell.

We hope to see you at one of our beautiful Village beaches this summer season! And remember... always swim near a Lifeguard!
